ACT Deputy Chief Minister, Yvette Berry MLA, will join CFMEU Construction workers on the Uptown construction site in Gunghalin to launch a fundraising appeal for paediatric services at Centenary Hospital for Women and Children on Wednesday.
The appeal is an annual tradition for construction workers and their union, who last year raised $20,000 for much needed paediatric medical supplies
“This is what unions do,” ACT Branch Secretary Jason O’Mara said. “We look after each other, we look after our communities.”
“Construction workers and their employers are proud to cooperate to raise money for such a worthwhile cause every year”.
“We’re hoping that this year our members and their bosses will dig extra deep so that we can do even more than we have before to help sick kids get the best care possible.” He said.
In the lead up to Good Friday, CFMEU members and their employers will be buying flags to hang from cranes. The flags feature a teddy bear, and will be visible above Canberra throughout the fundraising campaign.
